Aldershot Traction Athletic Club, or The Traco as most locals call it, has been quietly holding down its spot in the community for about as long as anyone can remember. Bowling on the green, a casual kickabout, catching the big match on one of their screens, or celebrating something special in their events space – this old social club really does have a bit of everything for everyone in Aldershot. But they’re the first to admit none of it would work without their loyal members backing them, which is exactly why they decided to throw a members’ day to say thanks properly.
On the 29th of August, The Traco threw the doors open to 250 people for a day packed with fun, drinks and, you guessed it, a Hog Roast Aldershot hog roast. When their team rang us up to handle the catering, we were genuinely buzzing and by the time we arrived on site, you could already feel the excitement in the air, even with the sky looking increasingly moody overhead.
Hog Roast Aldershot wasted no time getting the gazebo set up outdoors and diving straight into prep, scoring the pig skin, soaking the meat and working salt into every last crevice to get that crackling exactly right. The clouds kept rolling in above us, but we barely gave them a second thought, too busy pulling together the sides of sage and onion stuffing, applesauce, mixed salad and coleslaw, laying out baskets of rolls and wraps and putting together our meat-free option of grilled veg and halloumi kebabs with tzatziki and sweet chilli.
Once the party kicked off at 3pm, most guests understandably huddled indoors away from the rain, but the sight and smell of that roasting pork proved just too good to resist and had them venturing back outside, just long enough to load up a plate before darting back inside to eat.
We’re thrilled to say that food did exactly what it was supposed to do – fill bellies and bring people together for an unforgettable celebration. Rain or no rain.
