So when Hog Roast Reading was invited to cater for an event at Porsche Reading, we knew it was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up. And while we may not have been swapping our catering van for a swish sports car (tempting as that sounds), we were there for something just as important – feeding 200 guests breakfast before the day had even properly begun.
Arriving while most of the world was still waking up, the Hog Roast Reading team got straight to work. Coffee in one hand, serving trays in the other, we set about turning the forecourt into a fully functioning breakfast setup in record time. There’s something oddly satisfying about watching a quiet space slowly come to life with the smell of sizzling bacon.
And speaking of bacon, the entire menu was pretty much a love letter to the traditional British breakfast – done right. Crispy bacon from free-range pork, homemade sausages seasoned carefully and charred to that sweet spot between golden and caramelised, and perfectly cooked eggs tucked into soft rolls that held everything together just as they should. To make things even more convenient, everything was served on disposable plates so guests could move freely, mingle and still eat well without juggling cutlery at half eight in the morning.
That last detail matters more than it sounds. A standing breakfast event lives or dies by how easy it is to navigate – too fussy and people stop eating, too casual and it feels like an afterthought. Getting that balance right is something Hog Roast Reading has learned through experience and this one flowed exactly as it should – relaxed, informal and surprisingly lively given how early it was. And if that’s not a strong start to a morning, it’s hard to know what is.
Hog Roast Reading had a brilliant time and the Porsche team were fantastic hosts – even if they did make us slightly covetous of the showroom on the way out.
