Some events come with a bit of history attached, and this one had it in spades. The Windsor Royal Warrant Holders Association has been around since 1840, quietly doing the important work of keeping the Royal Warrant alive and well – the seal that lets certain businesses proudly display the Royal Arms when they trade. It’s the kind of institution you don’t think about often, but once you learn about it, you can’t help but be a little fascinated. So when Hog Roast Windsor was asked to cater their summer event on the 17th of July, we jumped at the chance to find out more – and to feed the 80 guests who’d been invited along.
The brief was simple: reliable, high-quality catering that wouldn’t let the occasion down. And not to toot our own horn, but we definitely delivered.
Given the history of hog roasts at royal celebrations over the centuries, it only felt right to put one front and centre for a group so closely tied to royal tradition. Ours came out exactly as it should – crispy skin, golden all over, and meat so juicy it practically fell apart at the prod of a fork. We paired it with applesauce and sage and onion stuffing for that classic finishing touch, plus a stack of rolls and wraps for anyone wanting to build their own hog roast sandwich (and let’s be honest, most people did).
Sides matter just as much as the main event in our book, so we made sure there was plenty to go around. Tomato and mozzarella salad and a Greek salad brought some Mediterranean brightness to the table, coleslaw added its usual crunch, and herb-dressed new potatoes gave everything a lighter, fresher edge alongside the richer flavours. For guests who weren’t after meat, Hog Roast Windsor’s grilled vegetable kebabs offered something colourful and satisfying in their own right.
By the end of the afternoon, plates were empty and conversation was flowing – which, in our experience, is always the best sign an event has gone well. It was a genuine pleasure to spend the day with a group whose work quietly shapes so much of British tradition, and we’re already looking forward to whatever comes next.
