Heading back to school isn’t usually something you look forward to once December rolls around… unless, of course, there’s a Christmas party and a cracking meal waiting at the end of the day. That was very much the case earlier this month when Hog Roast Woking was invited along to cater Woking High’s annual festive do – and we were more than happy to answer the call.
Once the final bell chimed and the classrooms had emptied, the building took on a completely different vibe. Laughter replaced lesson plans. Cosy winter coats were swapped for party outfits. And the serious business of celebrating could finally begin.
With an evening kick-off planned, Hog Roast Woking spent all afternoon working on getting the meal just right. Before long, roasting trays filled the air with that unmistakable festive smell of roasted meat and savoury sides – and as the first guests started filtering in, they were instantly drawn to our serving station!
All in all, around 100 guests came together for the celebration, and Hog Roast Woking delivered a proper festive spread to match the occasion. At the centre of it all was beautifully roasted turkeys, cooked until they were soft, juicy and full of flavour – none of that dry, stringy nonsense. Cranberry sauce and sage and onion stuffing sat ready alongside them, with a generous line-up of sides completing the picture.
There was creamy homemade cauliflower cheese, glazed seasonal vegetables, pigs in blankets, golden roast potatoes and rich gravy poured without hesitation. Bread rolls and wraps were stacked high so everyone could build their perfect sandwich. And seconds (and thirds) were very much encouraged.
Vegetarian guests weren’t left watching the excitement from the sidelines either. Grilled vegetable and halloumi skewers proved popular, served with soft flatbreads, cool tzatziki and a chilli sauce that packed a delicious kick.
As the evening rolled on, plates were cleared, compliments flowed and the room settled into that happy, post-dinner hum. It was relaxed, festive and exactly how a Christmas party should feel.
A huge thank you to Woking High for having us along. Hog Roast Woking loved being part of the celebration – and if this is what “going back to school” looks like, just know we’re happy to do it again!
