Diamond Wedding Anniversary, Hog Roast in Lambourn

Over the weekend, it felt like summer had disappeared already, with some chilly nights and wet and windy days. The gloomy weather did nothing to dampen our spirits at Ted and May’s wedding anniversary party that we catered for on Sunday with a Hog roast in Lambourn, however. The couple just celebrated an amazing 60 years of marriage and the pub venue they chose was filled to the brim with many well wishers, with friends and family attending from as far as New Zealand.

Ted called us in advance to book our catering services, and it wasn’t for the first time. The couple and their family have been long-standing users of The Spitting Pig, both locally for their own events, and across the country after kindly recommending us to others. This time, Ted mentioned that the weather forecast for their special day wasn’t looking particularly summery. No matter, though, as we have a marquee that we can put up outside. In this instance, there wouldn’t be enough room or ventilation indoors to cook a hog in one of our machines inside the venue, but if the weather was too bad we could still cook outdoors and serve inside the pub.

We arrived nice and early and set up the marquee and hog roast machine, with the pig to be slowly cooking for several hours and filling the air with delicious aromas. So much so that we were approached again and again by passers-by asking if they could buy a pig in a bun! We had to turn them down unfortunately, as this pig had Ted and Mary’s names on it!

While the speeches were being said indoors, we started to carve our lovely hog, which was now sizzling away in its own juices. Surprisingly, the rain stayed away, so we served the guests outdoors, with piles of meat, fresh bread rolls, our stuffing and apple sauce, as well as some wonderful crispy crackling. The entertainment inside, a local band, started up and after we cleared away, Ted and May insisted that we join their party.

The Hog Roast in Lambourn was enjoyed by all, especially Ted and Mary who couldn’t thank us enough for catering their special day. 60 years is, of course, a diamond wedding anniversary, and as if the party couldn’t get any better, Ted ended the night by surprising his wife with a stunning diamond necklace – another sweet memory of a great day.
